The Bell AH-1 Cobra (also known as the Snake or HueyCobra) was designed to be an interim gunship for the US Army in Vietnam. The transmission, engine, and rotor system came from the UH-1 Iroquois (Huey), with a narrow fuselage and dedicated attack options. The Cobra can be loaded with a variety of weapons on its wings and features the familiar chin gun turret. The armored dual cockpit allowed it to have a pilot and gunner. 

During Vietnam, the fleet flew over one million operational hours, flying in tandem hunter-killer formations with Cayuse scout helicopters or serving as fire support for ground troops. The US Army retired the Cobra in 2001, but it also saw use from Japan, Republic of Korea, Jordan, and more.
